The difference between an RP and RP (Qualifying) - In short, the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) has different titles for RPs depending on their stage in their practice and the milestones they have met.
Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) - Has completed or mostly completed a Master's degree in a field related to Psychology/Counselling. They are authorized to practice psychotherapy but must do so with ongoing clinical supervision and actively work towards RP status.
Registered Psychotherapist (RP) - Has completed the required supervision and direct practice hours and passed the CRPO's entry-to-practice examination. An RP in this category may be working towards the necessary supervision and direct practice hours for "Independent Practice" status. This status indicates they are no longer required to access supervision to practice. Their public credentials remain the same when they receive Independent Practice status. Many RPs continue to access supervision even once it is no longer required to maintain ethical practices for themselves and their clients.
